Gay Family Group Praises Obama Proclamation
President Obama this week delivered a proclamation declaring Monday to be “Family Day” – in which he acknowledged families headed by gay parents. In his statement, the President said “Whether children are raised by two parents, a single parent, grandparents, a same-sex couple, or a guardian, families encourage us to do our best and enable us to accomplish great things.”
Jennifer Chrisler from Family Equality Council said she hopes Obama’s recognition of gay families will just show how ordinary gay families are.
“We worry about bedtime and bathtime and playdates and playgrounds and hugs and homework and all the things that make families what they are. And this president sees that equally as well, and that’s why he feels so comfortable including us in things like these family day proclamations.”
In the proclamation, Obama advised all families to spend more time together, work to communicate better, and confront the challenges of drugs and alcohol.
