CA Gay Group Launching ‘Win Marriage Back’ Campaign – Before Court Ruling is Issued

The California Supreme Court has until June 2 to render its ruling on whether or not to invalidate Proposition 8. But activists in that state are preparing for another battle at the ballot box – even before the court issues its decision.

On Thursday, the statewide lobbying group Equality California announced its latest effort – Win Marriage Back: Make it Real! The group told reporters on a conference call that the 100-day campaign will be launched on Monday.

Equality California Executive Director Geoff Kors said the campaign is all about public opinion, not necessarily about winning at the ballot box next year.

Kors: “We have one goal and that’s equality and acceptance for our community and we’re going to do that work regardless of when the community wants to go back to the ballot. And we’re hopeful we don’t have to because we believe the Supreme Court’s going to be striking Prop 8.” 9:45

The group announced a significant statewide media ad buy for two TV commercials featuring same sex couples and their children.

Marc Solomon is the group’s Marriage Equality Director.

Solomon: “Win marriage back is not talk. It’s action about making the lives of same sex couples, their family members and friends – real to all Californians.”

The campaign will also reach out to one thousand religious leaders in multiple faith communities. Equality California is also stepping up its support of local grassroots efforts and online activism.
